Penn FNP 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I applied to Penn's FNP program in early February. Has anyone applied to the program for Fall admission??

Haven't heard anything yet either!

Hi All,

i applied in January of this year. I emailed admissions about 2 weeks ago to ask when we would be notified of admission status. No one answered my email, so I wrote back again last week and received two responses. The first stated that notifications would be mailed out during the last week of April. I received a second email from a different person a few days later stating that admissions was flooded with summer session applicants, thus resulting in a delay of review of Fall FNP applications. So, I am patiently (or trying to be patient anyways) awaiting the notification of (hopeful) admission... it's pretty frustrating cuz you know, LIFE. I guess you just gotta roll with the punches. Hoping it works out because it's the only school I applied to!

Just throwing a question out there - why did you apply to UPenn even though they do not offer a DNP program? I have been a nurse for 10 years now, I'm not getting any younger - I really like that the program is 16 months in length. When I talk to younger nurses, or new grads, they say they are interested in getting the DNP over with, and I've met a few who have actually declined admission offers from UPenn for this reason - but I'm not as young as them! I think the DNP requirement for NPs will be implemented by 2020. I wanted to finish an MSN FNP program before that deadline. I would like to get my DNP in the future, probably from a California State School while working full time. That's just an idea right now.

It is also really affordable to live in Philly (compared to NYC, my current home). Obviously, it is also one of the top nursing schools in the nation. It took me a long time to decide to even consider applying.

Hope we all hear hear soon!

Forgot to add in that the second email response stated that they couldn't give me a time frame of admission status.

I am another Fall 2017 applicant and have yet to receive an admissions decision. I'm getting so antsy mostly as other schools, namely NYU, Johns Hopkins, and Penn's school of public health (I applied as a dual degree mph applicant) have already given me admittance to their programs and understandably expect a final decision on my part. Penn is my first choice mainly for geographical and financial reasons. It is so frustrating not having heard back yet, it's May!! I hate being in this limbo. This message board has been a great comfort to me to see other people in my same boat, and to realize that its not just me being kept on the line. Here's hoping we all hear back sometime this work week with favorable responses!

I would call the admissions office and inquire or email them. Did they email you saying they received everything and gave you an estimated decision date? I had gotten an email saying "by the end of May" and then heard about 2 weeks later! Hope this helps and congrats on your acceptances thus far:)

I actually called admissions today to ask about where to send my official transcripts since they had not received them for some reason according to the checklist (it also stated that they would be required if admission was offered - but I am not going to wait for that). This gave me yet another opportunity to ask for the fourth time about notifications of admissions. The woman on the phone was very nice. She told me so many people keep calling and admissions had stated they would send out notifications last week, but now she stated that admissions is saying that applicants would be notified "shortly." She was positive in saying, well at least no news is good news right now if you didn't get a denial letter. At least that made me laugh a little. Good luck all.

That's actually pretty funny! My only contact with the admissions office was in early March. I got an email verifying that my application was complete and ready for review. It said no timeline existed yet for when we would hear. But it's always good to know they received everything. Trust me, I've been so temped to call the office repeatedly too! Guess all we can do is wait

Hi all! I was hoping to connect with any other Adult-Gero Primary Care NP Fall 2017 students that are Penn bound, anyone out there?

i figured I'd share some info while I was here to help everyone out- I was referred to this post by RNinthecity. I was in a similar position for the part-time AGPCNP program and definitely found these post reassuring while I waited for a response from the admission committee-- especially since much of my living situation depended on my admittance. I finally heard back with a decision last Friday and was (thankfully) accepted.

I figured I'd share my timeline- I began my application in February, had my letters of recommendation in by the first week of March, and had submitted my completed application by the last week of March. I was initially told a decision would be made by the end of June, but came in earlier.

As some of you mentioned the FT FNP program for Fall 2017 start is full. So I can imagine they are sorting through the accepted fulll-time FNP students for different start dates as well as adding PT students to the mix. Stay positive! As hard as it is to wait, it also means everyone is still being considered :)

Has anyone received any news yet? Having to wait this long is getting ridiculous....

I got a call saying the program was full about 3 weeks ago.
