Pell Grant/Financial Aid Question

Published

I have been trying to reach my school's financial aid department all day but they are apparently swamped. I have a general question and I'm hoping someone on here can answer for me. I was in college and received a pell grant back in 2004-2005 school year. I was not pursuing nursing at the time, but I did take a couple of the classes that I am now required to have as pre-reqs (specifically ENG111, PSY150 and CIS110). When I applied to the community college this time around (different college), I didn't even bother to put my previous college on there because its been so long, and a different college had told me it was my choice whether I disclose previous college coursework. So I assumed it was the same for this college. Anyway, I am now at the point where I am about to register for my classes, I applied for financial aid about 2 months ago and the school has all my information. Is there any way that the school will see that I went to the other college back in 2004-2005, and if so, does that mean that when I try to take ENG111, PSY150 and CIS110 this time around, that the pell grant wont pay for it, since I already took them (and passed) years ago? I know I could have just submitted my transcript from there, but it tends to be a big hassle dealing with that school....plus its been so long, I honestly would prefer to just take the courses over again, especially since I have follow-up courses for ENG and PSY - I don't want to be lost in those because its been so long since I took the prerequisites to them.

Sorry this turned out to be long, but my basic question is, does the pell grant care about the fact that I have already taken those 3 courses above in 2004? And does the pell grant care if I didn't submit my previous college transcript? Thanks!

Why can't you call fafsa. they will know better .

you really should find out for sure if the college you are currently attending required all transcripts. it is considered fraud if you do not disclose them to colleges that request all transcripts. i have never heard of a school that "didn't mind" if all my grades weren't present, probably for the very reason that you are inquiring about.

i don't believe it matters how long ago you took the class. unless you fail a class, you are not eligible to take it over (at least with financial aid). i know that science is a different story since those classes expire between 5-7 years, depending on the school. but classes like english, psych...etc. do not expire and therefore (again this is ny, not sure if it's different in other states) can not be taken over again.

i agree with the above poster, contact fafsa or just keep on trying to get ahold of the financial aid department. i sure as heck wouldn't risk guessing in this situation.

best of luck to you!
