Peer interview

So I've been working full-time in my current ED position for about 9 months. I applied for a part-time position at an ED closer to home for some extra money and figuring I could learn more but working a bit more. I got the call back for an interview today. I was told I would be doing a peer interview when I interview with the manager as well. I've never done that before. Any hints of advice on how to make it through that??? Will they ask similar questions that the nurse manager asks?? Can I ask them questions about the unit?? Thank you so much!!

The peer interview seems to be something that is becoming more common. I have only had to do it once, and it is much more relaxed than the interview with the manager. Yes, that is the time to learn more about the unit, and for them to learn more about you. This is where you get a better idea if it would be a good fit for you. Remember, these are the people you will be working with, so relax. They are not the enemy, but they may ask some interesting questions so be prepared to answer honestly. I think the peer interviews are a good thing for everyone involved. Good luck!

Peer interviews are your opportunity to see if you will "click" with the staff. Pay attention to their personalities. Are they serious or do they like to joke around. If you're quiet and shy, will you still fit in. Do they seem to be the helpful type or will gang up on you specially when you're a newbie.

Ask what is the most important trait they want from a coworker.

Ask what is the hardest part of their jobs.

Try to feel if the environment is stressful. Do they complain about workload and the division of labor?

I had one and i would say i hated it and thank God i didnt work there. the manager not only scared me but the peers were horrible also. even though i wanted to work Er, i love the medsurg i work better.

from my experience they would ask you questions the manager asked you basically. What you bring to the table, how you can help them and what not. and then you can ask them how they like the unit, what they would like to see etc. You get the pic
