I am a recent grad (May 2015) and passed my NCLEX in june. I had an interview with the nurse manager of a pediatric unit on Friday and he said they will be calling me back for a peer interview and job shadowing and that I should wear scrubs and the shadowing will last about an hour or so. I have had a peer interview at this hospital before in a different unit for a tech position while I was still in school and it was conducted immediately after the interview with the nurse manager and there was no mention of shadowing. What can I expect in the shadowing? do you think the job shadowing is standard practice with a peer interview? could this indicate that I did well on the interview with the nurse manager?
let me also mention that I had a special needs son who passed away right before I started nursing school (in 2013) and he spent 9 years in and out of this particular hospital in this particular unit as well as PICU. during the interview the nurse manager put 2 and 2 together and realized who my son was and it seemed to change the dynamic of the interview (not in a bad way) as he then realized I was familiar with the hospital and unit. My son was well taken care of and even the intensivists in the PICU would agree and credited the fact that he lived 9 years to my care of him. This also lets the nurse manager know that I have extensive experience with gtubes, traches, administering medications, post surgical care, heart problems, breathing problems, etc. even before I started nursing school. this is the only interview I have been called for in 40+ applications and I am very anxious to start working.
