I am currently a pediatric lpn in a clinic setting. I have been for 4 years now. I am thinking of a career change and correctional nursing came to mind after talking to a CNA friend who is in corrections. She loves it. Says there is always something interesting going on. That sparked my interest. Working in a pediatric clinic is pretty routine but I'm always up for more interesting. Just scared I've lost some skills since I havent had to use them much in the last 4 years. So, how would a pediatric nurse adjust to correcrtional nursing?!?!

I see a couple parallels....kids can't always tell you their symptoms so you need to be a bit of a detective, kids are immature, parents can be demanding.
All the same with inmates: they lie about symptoms, can display immature behavior and be manipulative.
Of course, your average 5 year old won't shank you at the first opportunity
That's a good point.

It definately different than pediatrics. But, it can be exciting at times. Gotta have some thick skin and not be afraid of guys bleeding out.. they do that from time to time when they decide to act a fool and start cutting on themselves in a desperate suicide attempt. Gotta have a strong stomach... sometimes the smell is ungodly, but you get used to it (kinda). It's not for everyone, but I guess I am one of the few because it's definately my preference.
