hi all! this past July I began in the pedatric operating room. I was a gymnast growing up and am no stranger to surgery. my dream is to work with kids so I snagged the job with no hesistation.
two months in I am pretty miserable. I came to terms real quick I am not an operating room nurse. I feel like being new and young; I am still a sponge and have so much to learn and I feel like the OR hinders my learning. I miss learning about mediactions, performing nursing skills. I also know my long term goal is either peds ICU or peds CICU and then eventually acute pedatric NP as my job will cover 90% of the tutition if I go to school with them (but that is many years down the line).
I applied for a bunch of internal positions and landed an interview with the Pedatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. I have been doing some research on this type of unit and nursing and am growing excited. I really want to land this job! I was wondering if any nurses who have worked this speciality before can give me some insight on what to expect and what my job duties will consist of. I want to sound educated on my interview.
prior to doing this OR job I was an LPN for 3 years and now have 1 year RN experience. I did skilled nursing and pediatric homecare. I was wondering how I can use my previous experiences to make myself as marketable as possible
Thank You!
