PCT Taking the CNA Exam.

Published

I am currently working as a PCT in a major Florida hospital. I love my job so far, but really want to be licensed for my skills and experience. When I was hired I was studying for the CNA exam and have learned all of the hands-on skills for patient care in my workplace. I guess my real question here is whether or not becoming licensed would help me have better leverage come evaluation and pay raise time or should I feel the need to obtain a second job in the healthcare field. (Right now I LOVE my job so I do not plan on leaving anytime soon.) I am also obtaining a BSN right now and will eventually become PRN as I start applying to nursing school and attending that full-time. I wouldn't mind even working as a CNA part-time along with going to nursing school part-time as long as I have a license for the healthcare field. I really feel like having a license gives me more security and stability while I continue my education. Any thoughts?

Here where I live they wouldn't let you do any patient care in hospitals or LTC unless you have your CNA certification. To take the CNA exam you actually have to have classroom hours. So be aware that you may have to go through a CNA course before they let you sit for your certification. Good luck.

Hello,

I live in Florida myself. My understanding was that you did have to be licensed for PCT and CNA. I'm just curious as to which hospital you work for out here? My current CNA License is expired but they still consider it active in the system, I just need to renew. I was looking into a possible part-time job to have some extra money for nursing school. Thanks.
