Hi all,
I had an interview for a PCA position today for a specialty unit. The nurse manager and the tech seemed to like me, and said it is possible they will offer me the job as per diem or part-time after they speak to HR.
However, during the interview, I became a bit concerned about some of the issues the tech spoke about that's been going on the unit.
I'm still new to direct-patient care ( I just received a CNA certificate in Jan. I've worked and volunteered in hospitals in the area for several years and I think that gave me an edge) and I know there are issues within healthcare regarding treatment of employees and how that affects patient care... but the tech mentioned that there has been severe changes to the unit given the bullying and aggression co-workers have had towards each other such as not pulling weight, calling out, refusing to work as a team. She and the nurse manager (who is very new...) are trying to work to re-design the team floor given how confrontational staff have been with other staff and that several people have been fired lately because of this. She wanted to know, as a new hire, how I would be able to handle co-worker confrontation especially given the specialty unit and necessary care of the patients and high patient to tech volume.
Is this something I should be concerned about? I have a few other job interviews. I appreciate the tech being upfront and honest but is this something common and I just need to get use to it? Or is this a warning sign that perhaps I should work on a different floor? or facility?
Suggestions?

Yes, you should be concerned. I would back away from it now. That tech should have never presented the unit as such. This could be the reason they are having a hard time finding people to work there and the culture is probably getting worse if they are understaffed.
Go to your other interviews and find a team oriented unit. People with smiles on their faces.
