Pay Rates at VA vs. Others in San Fran

Published

Hi..

I was just curious if anyone can tell me how much lower the VA in SF offers per hour compared to say CPMC, SFGH, Kaiser, etc. I know that new grads start at about 39ish @ SFGH (my friend just got on there) and I've heard about the same at CPMC. The VA offers good benefits to make up for less pay but how much "less" is less?

Thanks....Ella

Just go onto the VA website. They list all the salary ranges for jobs. http://www.vacareers.va.gov/jobdetails.cfm?JobID=VHA662NROC95560&link1=%3Ca%20href%3D%27fac%2Ecfm%27%3ESearch%20by%20Facility%3C%2Fa%3E&link2=searchtype%3Dfac%26searchvar%3D662&link3=%26searchtype%3Dfac%26searchvar%3D662%26OccupationalTitle%3DNursing%20Occupations%26ShowOS%3DYes%26OccupationalSpecialty%3DRegistered%20Nurse

Occupational Specialty: Registered Nurse

Position Title: Oncology/Medical Staff Nurse-San Francisco

Facility Name: SAN FRANCISCO

Assigned To: Medical/Oncology Floor

Grade: Nurse I (all levels)/Nurse II

Salary: $72,258 - $111,786

Good luck.

I'm not sure if this is still true, but the VA also pays more the higher your level of education. So people with BSNs get more than people with ADNs, etc.

As for SF General, my friend just started a couple months ago (new grad) at $47.95 per hour.

It is still true, the VA does pay more depending whether you have an ADN vs. BSN vs. Masters in nursing. (You start further up the pay tier level.)

For your new grad friend at SF General, is $47.95/hr the base rate for days? Or is your friend working the evening or night shifts which includes differentials? And did she/he have a ADN, BSN or MSN? Thanks.
