Pay Rates in NC

Published

I'm planning to move to NC in the not-too-distant future, and wanted to know what the pay rates are like there... I live in FL and I'm sure the cost of living here is more. Like what would a person w/ 2-3 yrs experience earn?

I too plan to relocate to the Charlotte area, but only to be closer to family that lives in small town SC, where the cost of living is very low, therefore so is the pay. Through my research , I thought that the Charlotte area would be similar to where I am in Texas (LVN starting pay is 23/hr-LTC). Guess I need to dig deeper...

Seems $23 would be on the high end for an LPN around Charlotte, but I don't know that for a fact.

I just moved to the Triad area and as a new grad I make about $20 to start and $4 differential for overnights. Love the job due to the experience but hate the nurse-patient ratio of 1:6. Love the state, the weather, the people. And even though my fellow nurses respect me, some of the doctors treat us like crap. The benefits stink and health insurance is extremely expensive for a family. The 12 hour shifts are more like 13 - 14 hours and then you're in trouble because you do stay late. If you complain or threaten to quit, you are told to go instead of them trying to listen to you. As a new grad I have no say, I tried at first but was brushed to the side because according to them my problem is that I am inexperienced. However, you talk to nurses who've worked on that floor 10+ years and they are having the same problems but don't want to say anything because of their "southern courtesy." Cost of living is actually more expensive than where I came from and my paycheck is not enough to pay all our bills. But that is just my story here in NC, don't mean the same thing will happen to you. However, if I had to do it all over again I probably would NOT haved moved here, so I would make sure you research a lot and secure a job before coming here 'cause then you be like my husband...moping around the house and unemployed!:o
