Pay rate for new rn in Tyler, TX . Also about TJC nursing program.

Published

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate pay rate for a new rn with no experience and an associated degree in the Tyler, Texas area. I have heard conflicting stories about the pay rate for RN's and am curious what to expect when I finally get thru school. Also, has anyone been thru the TJC ADN program?

I'm a student myself going through the UTT program in Palestine. Some of the people in my class are going to work in Tyler, and they said the pay rate is around 18/hr. I hear good and bad about both hospitals, but I hear MFH has a better residency program than ETMC. Both hospitals will pay part of your tuition if you agree to work for them after school. I also know some people who have gone through the TJC program and they enjoyed it, have not heard complaints about it. If you're considering a BSN degree, UTT's program is good, I've enjoyed it and the instructors are incredibly helpful and experienced. The only thing I would have done differently is worked as an extern while in school to gain more experience. I graduate in May, and no longer having those instructors watching my back is a little scary!

Hey I'm in UTT at the Palestine campus!!Small world huh? I'm taking Nurs 3205-Concepts & Theories before I enter the program in the fall(2004). I'm also currently still at Stephen F. Austin State finishing up my pre-reqs( patho, pol sc, life span, and speech). I like the nursing class so far, this one isn't hard at all-just lots of writing. I'm still kind of scared though because I don't know what to expect in the 1st semester.:)

Amy;

I work there currently. and am trying to get some info for you on the phone right now. You could call H/R @ 531-4472 Ask for MS. Compe, recruiter.

Depending on the floor you work or specialy you do, pay varies; i.e. you do get shift differential for eve & noc, on some areas you will take call and you come in at 1.5%/hr. Working critical places (ICU,E/R, some other specialties have a "Specialty Bonus". for some reason, the base figure $16.00-18.00/hr. sticks in my head...

==(sorry I coudn't get the figure over the phone).

All places I'ved & worked (extensive) have some degree of politics and intregue going on, as does "Mother's". I hate politics and one-upmanship in any form. But you just have to have to accept that it happens (where 2 or more are gatherded together) avoid it, and avoid the cliques. This is not directed toward "Mother's", it exists everywhere. Just remember: if they'll talk about someone, they'll talk about you too when you are away. {Terribly foul sin, it doesn't benefit the gossipers, and hurts you to no good reason.}You just need to pray that you find a well unified staff where ever you may work.

But I'd apply again in retrospect. Digestive Disease is a good place to work, and they have a few openings, if they would allow people to start in such an area, It's fast pace, your day is over before you know it. My boss June is really outasight to work for. I have found her to be very kind, caring of her employees. Lots of good reasons to work at "Mother's". Oh, and the inurance and bennies are great.

So, check out the board www.tmfs.org see what they have for you.And by the way, your initial recruiter is a cool person, no need to fear like you'll be under a microscope.
