Hi, I was offered a job at a virginia hospital in their psych section and I'm really excited. But I want to know how much is the salary for psych nurses around this area, what hospitals are the best to work at for psych, and also what is your scheduling like.
My clinical instructor for psych told me this hospital that I got the offer from was really good to their nurses but I want to know if theres other options because she only told me about virginia hospitals. Whats funny is that I thought there would be more options for new grads in psych nursing but a lot of these units have low turnover rates and many of them aren't hiring. The interviewer said that she usually only hires one or two new grads a year so I guess I got lucky.
Oh one more question, what is the violence on your units like b/c I was told on this unit that on a scale of 0 to 10 its about a 7-9.

I cannot advise on pay scale in your area because I work at a psyche hospital in the south but I can help you with your concern about violence. You musn't go into this field with that being your main concern. I don't think that I have had 4 take-downs/violent behavior episodes in the last year. I just noticed the date of your post so this may come rather late, I just joined this forum.

I realize that this is very late, but Johns Hopkins in Baltimore has 9 floors of mental health and is a wonderful place to get varied experience

I've Recently been accepted for an interview for a JHH psych floor, and I'm thrilled! Are you an employee there!?
I was hoping to learn how competitive the psych opportunities at JHH were, because this is my dream job, especially as a new grad!
hi! No I do not work there now, I worked on meyer 6 as a travel nurse last summer and got offered a permanent position, unfortunately my family is in NH , I had to come home. It was a terrific experience.
