Hi I looking for help on pathophysiology and pharmacology I failed both subjects this past semester . I used porth for my pathophysiology book and I find quite difficult to understand . Can any one recommend a good book and also questions and answer for patho. I really need help or any advice I can get. I will be retaking them over in the fall semester.

Are you taking your class on-line or in school?

Are you taking it with the same professor? Do you have lecture notes, taped lectures, case studies, etc.? How did you do in physiology? There are some good podcasts on Itunes U for patho.

I don't think you can simply memorize patho. I'm just finishing my patho class and I find that I have to basically trace each disease state through the body. For example, type II diabetes mellitus - it causes catabolism of proteins and fats. What happens when fats and proteins are catabolized for energy? You wind up with ketoacids as byproducts. The ketoacids do what? They contribute to decreased ph. So, if pH decreases what happens? Respiratory rates increases to reduce CO2 and H+ is not reabsorbed in the kidneys. What happens when H+ is lost? etc. etc. etc. Now, there is WAY more going on with diabetes than just catabolism of proteins, but I find that if I trace the disease through the body, I understand what it's doing and why - not just trying to memorize that Diabetes causes metabolic acidosis, polyuria, protenuria, etc. Knowing the why is SO important.

no I am not taking it online , I am taking it at a University.

@ quickshort north student.

Yes I am planning to take it with the same professor. I have lecture powerpoint notes but I did not record the lectures. My school combines patho and physiology together. How can I get podcast
