I just had to retake Path again my second quarter. My best advice is really know your A&P bcause that will be the foundation for every alteration and dysfunction of all systems. I had a horrible A&P instructor, hence, my repeat of the class, but I am grateful for it now because I understand so much more. We used the Understanding Pathopysiology (ISBN:978-9-3230-4990-0) with the workbook (ISBN:978-0-323-04989-4) and in my opinion are great books! Good luck to you! I'd be happy to help anytime if you need it! :)
i have Pathophysiology made Ridiculously Simple..I bought it off amazon for like 20$ but I haven't used it yet because I will take Patho next semester. But I skimmed through it and it has little cartoon pictures for the different diseases, etc. So if you are a visual learner it could be helpful. Also, on amazon the ratings (out of 21 people) are almost 5 stars! So it must be helpful somehow! :)
I would suggest taking A&P 1 AND 2 before taking Patho. I'm just finishing Patho and it is a HARD class. Lots and lots of foundations from A&P.
I would also suggest taking a good professor, if you know anyone that has already taken Patho. My professor is supposed to be the hardest at the school, but going into clinicals next semester I know I'll feel prepared because he was tough, but we learned A LOT.
Good luck!!!!
I took pathophysiology last year. Best thing you can do is review your A&P, it will really really help. do NOT memorize like you do in A&P...understand it!!! be able to apply it to situations...i cant emphasize that enough. i tutored Pathophysiology and my tutees would try and try to memorize by making note cards and i told them UNDERSTAND IT!! DONT MEMORIZE. the ones that did the best were the ones who listened to me. If you understand it, and understand how something works...you will be able to answer the question without any hesitation.!!!
does your school offer tutoring?? Ours does for free, of course the tutors get paid but the tutees dont have to pay anything. You meet 1 day a week in a private or group session (your request), they match you up with a tutor they feel best fits you. Its really helpfull. Even i had a tutor when i was in that class.
READ THE BOOK!!! your professor will test out of your book, they wont test on other resources from wikipedia. if he/she asks it....it is in your book somewhere.
Answer questions at the end of a chapter your textbook. Sometimes they take questions from that. Maybe not directly but pretty close. If you do those and you get an answer wrong, no why you got it wrong. Dont just guess when you asnwer them...KNOW THEM!!!! they are very usefull to knowing how much you really know about that chapter.
listen in class. Anytime they state something more then once, or raise their voice during something...its usually a hint to whats on the test!! i remember when we were talking about tetrology of fallot she stated about 5 times they often sit in a "squatting position" ....that question was on the test. They dont realize they are doing it, but...they do it! lol.
I dont have any supplemental resources for you...but your best tool and your best friend will be your textbook.
hope that helps.
oh thanks a lot guys.... according to the way the pre-nursing curriculum is arranged at my school....we take patho I and A&P I in the same semester, so i am afraid i may not have the background you speak about... But we are using Pathophysiology - The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children. hopefully it wont be too bad...and from rate my proffesor my proffessor is looking good...

Hello Everyone,
I am a pre-nursing student and we are required to take Pathophysiology I before we apply to the program. I was wondering if anyone had any study guides or supplemental books that they will recommend for the course. Any help will be appreciated.
