Passed NCLEX + my review of materials

Published

Hi everyone! I found out I passed NCLEX today using quick results, woohoo!

I used hurst, uworld, kaplan qbank, and La charity. A few days ago I also started utilizing the nclex mastery app

This is my opinion of the sources:

Hurst - was, in my opinion, the least helpful. It was great for Maternity, because that is my weakness and I remembered almost nothing from the class itself so the Hurst maternity sections helped me "relearn" the material. However, beyond that, I thought that this was the part I could have skipped. I did 3/6 of the exams. This was the earliest prep that I did.

Uworld- the best source. Of all the sources, uworld was, in my opinion, the most helpful. The questions were harder then nclex, and the nicest part of Uworld is that the rationales are helpful and EXPLAINED. It was like kaplan only with rationales that helped you learn! I did approximately 1300 questions from here. I did a TON of these questions within a week of my test from here, and wish I had learned of this and utilized it sooner. The other thing that is nice about this is that they tell you what percentage of people got a question right and what the average score was after you finish a practice test. My scores ranged from 45-83 percent. Towards the end of my prep I was continuosly scoring above the average score, ranging from about 5-15 percent higher than the average.

Kaplan Qbank- useful as well, but I thought that uworld was more helpful. The screen set up and way everything looked was most similar to the nclex. I did not think this was worth the money, with uworld being free for an entire month and then just 20 dollars a month to renew. I did approximately 1100 questions from here. The one thing that I did find helpful was that it kept track of how many times you change a question from an incorrect to correct answer/etc, so it helps with seeing patterns. Still, not worth the money in my opinion compare to uworld primariliy because the rationales were essentially nonexistent or very short and didn't really help me learn.

Lacharity- this is the prioritization and delegation book. I found this book extremely helpful also because it got me to approach the questions corectly. I did approximately 500 questions from here

Nclex mastery app- this was way more helpful then I realized. What I liked about this was the informalness of it all. You don't realize in a day how much time you are actually on your phone. I never wrote anything down from this app, nor did I even finish it. This was great for when you were in line, during tv commercials, etc. It was very informal. My average on this was a 59%.

Other pieces of information that I used:

allnurses- I did searches for topics that I was unsure of, including fluids like hypertonic/hypotonic and infection control mnemonics that were extremely helpful.

youtube- I watched procedures that I was unsure of for steps.

quizlet- lots of free information on there that help, like notecards made of lab values, etc.

Knowing what I know now, I would have done uworld and taken my time with it + PDA la charity and the nclex mastery app. I would not have done hurst or kaplan.

Just my opinion! I know everyone is different, but thought I'd give my reviews :)

Thank you for posting your experience & study tips on NCLEX. Congrats on passing the NCLEX!!!

I would like to ask how did you study for Pharma? and how long did your prepare for NCLEx?
