Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello, allnurses I wanted to tell everybody thank you for posting on my comments and giving me inspiration through my studying. I am officially an LPN, I took NCLEX on February 9 and the computer shut off at 89 questions. I had mixed emotions about it after I have finished, but I trust in a all mighty God for helping me to pass this test that means a lot to me. I want to tell everybody who is about to take NCLEX PN or RN to have faith in God and to do your part and God will do the rest. Don't ever give up, we have made it through nursing school and now we are going to pass NCLEX :) Thanks again for all the inspiring stories.

Congratulations. ...I'm planning on taking my nclex again, what steps did you use or study techniques/books?

At first, I did the 75 exam from Saunders and it develops a study calendar for you according to your exam results. I focused on my weakest areas. After I got done with that I purchased the Kaplan NCLEX-PN Strategies book and did some questions from the book, which were really helpful. Then I started to get bored doing questions from the same book, so I changed it a lil bit to make it fun. I had 6 resources to study from but I only did questions from the resources no reading content. The 6 resources I had are: Saunders, Mosbys for NCLEX-PN, NCLEX 3000, Exam Cram 1000 practice questions, Exam Cram content book and used the cd for questions, Kaplan. I motivated myself to do 200 questions a day from these resources. So I took a sheet of paper and cut pieces and wrote down the names of the resources and folded them to where I couldn't see the name and I would draw from my 6 pieces of paper. So like for example, if I drew Saunders I would do only 35 questions from there since 200/6 is 33.3 so I decided to bump it to 35, and after I was done with Saunders I would put Saunders away for the day and draw again. After I had done 2 resources I would take a break. I know it sounds crazy but that's how I did it and it worked for me. But if I had to choose the best one it would be Kaplan. Hope my idea helps you.

Thank you..lol it may have been different but it worked, as of right now trying to read kaplans course book by time i read a page n go to the next i forgot what i read so content is a no go..

Hello all,

Just wanted to let you guys know my experience from the time I graduated until I tested:

So... I graduated March 29th and we had our pinning ceremony two days afterwards. Let me tell you...it wasn't at all easy!! I struggled a lot during the program(mostly because of certain nursing instructors), anyways I made it through. My school sent in the paperwork around April 18th. During that time, I was finishing up with VATI and was ready to take the NCLEX. It takes my BON 30 days to process the paperwork. Needless to say, I was agitated and full of anxiety. There have been many sleepless nights. So around May 8th, I FINALLY received my ATT to test. I didn't want to tell everyone when I taking it due to the fact that I may fail, so I kept it to myself. When I looked at the test dates, there was one available for the next day!! I couldn't believe it!!! I just stared at the screen for about 30 minutes because the time finally came to where I could go ahead and take it or wait another two weeks to take it. With much hesitation, I picked the next day which was 5/12. The night before, I was awake and nervous and scared. I think I didn't fall asleep until 3 am. My exam time was at 12:45pm. So I get up around 9 am basically dragging around the house with my anxiety in full swing!! I have been praying to God for a long time to get me thru this. Once, I got myself together, I left my house at 10:30 and arrived at the testing center at 11:00. The pressure was on me heavily. I was going to sit in my car until noon but I had to go in and used the restroom. You guys...I thought was going to literally pass out in the restroom from my anxiety, so when I washed my hands and dried them, I threw some cold water on my face to calm down, it also took a lot of breathing relaxation techniques. So when I went into the testing center, the lady asked me if I wanted to take my test early because they had room. My first mind was telling me hell no and wait until 12pm...lol, but I said you know what it is now or never. So I told her yeah, okay. I then proceeded to a room where there were other people taking different tests. I sat at the computer, heart beating like crazy and anxiety is starting to kick back in. So I started to answer the questions and let me tell you there were things on there I have never seen before. By the time I got to question 50, I felt like taking a break, but told myself that I would wait a little longer or until I got to question 100. So I continued on with the test and after about 2 hours and 89 questions, the blue screen came up!! I was in totally awe!!! 80% percent of me was glad I got it out of the way, the other 20% worried about if I passed or not... I remember feeling much better leaving the testing center, but I know I wasn't going to fully rest until I knew I passed:yes:. I did the PVT trick around 5pm and got the "good pop-up"!!! I was EXTREMELY relieved!! It was a feeling like no other!! Today 5/13/16, I found my license number on the BON website. I didn't even have to pay the 7.95 for quick results!! I only had like 10 SATA questions, and the rest were more priority and management questions, I also only had 3 dosage calculations. No pharm, no labs, and a few OB questions. For those of you who haven't taken it yet, just have faith and study and you will do fine, most of all...believe in yourself.

Congratulations @nursetmw80. I just graduated from Nursing School and I just got an email from VATI today that I can start my course. Can you please give tips on how you studied and prepared for NCLEX? Tips on VATI. Any other resources other than VATI that you used? Thank you.

O_lala_land,

I started using VATI three weeks before graduation, which was around early March. I continued using VATI until April 15th(i got frustrated because I felt like I was wasting my time on remediation and wasn't learning anything)!! So I discontinued VATI and tried UWORLD. I've heard only good things about UWORLD, so I purchased the 30 day subscription. The questions really challenged me to think, which I loved. They also gave better rationales than ati. I did roughly about 100 questions a day. I was scoring between 35 %and 60%. If you decide to try uworld, don't get discouraged about the scores, just keep practicing the questions and read the rationales. I did about 800 of those questions and felt confident in taking the nclex. I took the weekends to relax and unwind. Don't wait too long to take your nclex, believe in yourself and good luck!!

Congrats!!!!! Which Saunders book did you use?

Tameen,

I didn't use saunders. I mostly used uworld.

Congrats!!!! can you please tell me which Saunders book you used?

See! I knew you did pass, good job! :)
