I saw your post and laughed because what you want to do is exactly my gameplan. I'm actually attending the weekend class at RSAA right now. I'm waiting to find out if I've made the cut for the fall start at ASU (fingers and toes crossed) and they are pretty clear about not working full time while you are in that program. I'm also hoping that CNA will be a foot in the door at a hospital, although I agree that it will be a challenge to get hired in the first place. I'll let you know when I start job searching.
hi studentnurse777,
How is the program going at RSAA? I decided to take to 3 week day course to get it over with faster. I think I am going to do the july class and then start nursing school in august (hopefully!) That's great that you are trying for ASU, I've heard it is pretty hard to get into. Maybe the nursing homes that we do clinicals at for RSAA will have some openings or know of other nursing homes that do have openings....I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am always hearing that LTC and nursing home facilities are in need of CNAs but who knows in this economy right now. Well good luck when you hear from ASU and let me know how the CNA training is going! :)
I've only done the first weekend. A lot of the information you will have seen doing your pre-reqs but there is some new info and the skills can be fun. We learned how to take blood pressures on Sunday which was new for me and more challenging than I expected. You are wise to do the 3 week course. The weekends we are there from 7 to 5:30 with a half hour lunch and it is an insanely long day. I'm already a little worried about the skills part of the state board test as there seems to be very little room for error but I'll definitely let you know how that goes.

Hey everyone,
I will hopefully be starting nursing school this august and was thinking about going to RSAA during the summer to get my CNA certification. I was hoping to have this so I could work part time during school and to get some experience in healthcare, but I would only be able to work maybe 2-3 days a week at the most. Does anyone know how hard it is to work part time as a new grad CNA? I am not hoping for a hospital job because realistically I will only be able to get a job in LTC or a nursing home right out of training with no experience. Thanks for any info!
