Paramedic brain -> ICU RN transformation

Hi,

I did some searching but didn't find much in the way of topics related to those with several years of Paramedic experience (both field/911 and clinical/ED) who have recently transitioned to a new RN role, specifically into the ICU (Trauma ICU in my case). For reference, I've been in EMS almost 10yrs & an RN for about 2 months. Anyone else out there in this boat?

While I've heard it takes time, this first month in TICU has seemed so surreal. I'm accustomed to ED/911 life that's abnormally high in adrenaline and imminent "danger" lurking around every corner that a fairly hemodynamically stable vented pt seems... suspiciously boring? I joined a residency program because I have no idea how to "be a nurse" after so many years of extensive autonomy and some if the most progressive protocols in the region under my paramedic license and in collaboration with an amazing medic director. I still practice as a paramedic PRN so I'm sure that's part of my difficulty with the adjustment.

I pick up in the ED too (incentive shifts mostly) on the side because I feel almost homesick for the chaos (and I miss my people). Kinda feel like I picked the wrong unit/dept, despite my love of followup and a more full understanding of the patho involved. Maybe I should have just stayed in the ED?

Thanks for letting me ramble. I don't really know another person in my particular situation and needed to kinda put this somewhere.
