Hi,
I submitted my application for their new grad program almost 3 weeks ago. It was due August 1st. I was wondering if anyone has heard back, or has had any progress.
Myly
Just called them, does not look too good for those of us that have not received a phone call for interview. Nurse managers are supposed to submit the names of applicants (those that were interviewed) that they have selected by next week. My hope is fading, will pray for a miracle. Congrats to those that got selected.
Got a call on Tuesday, interviewed Wednesday...called my references Thursday and I was hired by Friday. Still in shock...just this past Monday I was almost in tears sitting in my kitchen stripped of all hope. To all you out there who didn't get an interview/position, keep your head high!! In the big scheme of your life a few more months job searching wont seem like a big deal. You have your WHOLE life ahead of you. Best of luck to everyone.

Your little success story really is encouraging! Just hoping that my job is right around the corner too :)
Goodluck! Hope this doesn't reach you too late!
Be prepared with some standard questions. Its going to be the same questions they ask other candidates.
Why the VA? What do you have to offer/what makes you stand out/why should we hire you/ what characteristic do you have that will help our unit?
Be prepared for some clinical scenarios. I don't remember if I had some actually, but clinical scenarios are always in 3parts, to observe our critical thinking skills. What do you assess/see/observe/expect to see? What would you do? What is the outcome?
Be confident. and KNOW your resume. Sometimes they will refer to your resume and ask you questions about your experience to make it more personal.
And don't get nervous when they write things down. They will be there with a pad and paper and will write notes in your file while you are talking. Just be confident, and try to connect with them.

I declined the interview I had offered at the IICU (I have taken a job elsewhere). But I've been talking with the nurse recruiter for some time about this position. The program starts Oct. 9. At the IICU it's a panel interview with 3-4 people. Their last interview day was today, but since I cancelled, maybe they'll call for one more person next week? They are only selecting 10 people TOTAL, not for each unit - but I'm not sure what the breakdown is per unit.
