Hi all, I’m very interested in the field of Palliative Care NP. I’m in the beginning stages of researching but am having a hard time finding resources. I think I would need to get and acute care NP degree? Any advice or resources are very welcomed! Thank you!!

You can do palliative care NP a couple of different ways. FNP, Acute care NP - ultimately depends on where you work, what population of patients you work with. UAB has a specialty certification for palliative care regardless of type of NP (I am pretty sure).

You do not have to do the acute care route. I specialised in primary care and work in hospice/palliative care.
What are you working in right now? You are become more marketable and knowledge if you get involved in palliative care activities now, such as joining HPNA (national and local chapter), getting your CHPN, doing CEUs in palliative care, symptom mgmt, etc. The "best" specialty, in my opinion, to prepare you for palliative care is oncology. I worked in heme-onc for five years.
Unfortunately not many NP schools carry palliative care speciality programs. If you have a school close to you with a program, then for sure apply.
I just noticed that your handle name is "SFGiantsFan." UCSF has a palliative care minor: https://nursing.ucsf.edu/academics/departments/palliative-care
Thank you so much for all this info! I am a SF Giants fan living in So Cal! This was a lot of great info, thank you so much. I’m working at a university hospital in a high acuity MICU. We deal with palliative patients all the time and have the greatest palliative care team. I will look into all your suggestions!
