I have noticed that many nurses do not follow want to give narcotics even though they are ordered and the patient is in tears in pain. One nurse even made a pt with a PSF 'walk off the pain' and told the pt to 'toughen up'. If I were the nurse for the pt I would have given the morphine. Why are nurses reluctant to help a pt out who is in severe pain? When this is observed what should be done?
Also, should a nurse keep giving narcotics even though the patient is complaining of constipation? just want to hear more views...

If someone is constipated (or even not constipated but on regular narcotic) they should be receiving bowel care regime.
