Hello! I am on my OR/PACU Committe for Research and Education and on the Research/PI hospital-wide committee. I am really having a hard time coming up with ideas for a research project, either for OR or PACU. I work in the PACU, and I encounter problems or have issues with different things everyday, but when it comes time to formulate a problem to be solved by research, I draw a blank. Any ideas?
Our PACU just developed a new sedation documentation scale for the patients who rate their pain at "10" even when you have to wake them up to ask them.
It was developed by one of the RN's I work with. It's a 1 to 4 scale, much like the 0 to 10 pain scale. 1=awake, 2=drowsy, 3=awakens when aroused, 4=unresponsive
This way it can be documented quickly what the patients LOC is related to their pain level.
