Pacific College Costa Mesa Associate's Degree Program???

Published

Hi! I was interested in the Pacific College nursing program. They offer both LVN and Associate degree programs. I was wondering if anyone else got accepted into either programs. I am considering the Associate's degree. I would just search the website for alot of my questions but I think the links are broken. I can't seem to navigate on the page as the jpg images aren't visible. Must be a web issue. So you can see if I wonder if the school is legit. I just want out of the long wait list at places like Saddleback and Golden West but I still want a great education. Any advice would be great. I did a search on the topic and get both sides of the spectrum of either an awful school or a great school.

Really, they just got a little ahead of themselves on the website. They do not currently offer an ADN program. They have been approved to offer an associates degree, just not a RN program. They are currently working on the RN part, though, and they have told me that they have submitted all their paperwork, and its just a matter of waiting for a decision, at this point. The LVN program is legit, though. I ended up going with pacific because they've been around since '93, the LVN program has been running since'96, they have good NCLEX passing rates [currently 90%], they are owned by educators, and have no debt on their books [a lot of people overlook this one, particularly with newer schools and programs]. I would seriously make an appointment to sit down and talk with Patti in admissions. She's very helpful, and met all of my questions with a direct and straightforward answer. Be sure to ask about the number or students enrolled, the number who complete the program, and the number of graduates who pass their board exams [not just the percentage, 100% is not significant if only 10 people took the exam]. Also, ask about the faculty and how long the average instructor has been teaching at the school [75% have been at Pacific 5 years or more]. This is another important one, as an inability to retain staff is usually a sign of serious issues with the program. Actually, you should probably ask these questions at any school you look into. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Also, don't be too concerned with post that paint the school in a rediculously negative light. You will find posts like this about literally any LVN program in the area that is mentioned on these boards. More often that not, these posts are from lazy or incompetent students who are looking for someone else to blame for their own failure.

Thank you OC85. I will try to set up an appointment to talk with Patti from admissions and address these questions. I know I shouldn't base my judgment on a school based on posts that shed negative light. I guess it may be so that all the schools have some drop out that wants to talk bad about the education. Still, I guess I thought any private school will have admissions jumping for dollar signs and giving extreme rave reviews and I just want honest opinions from students that are there or have graduated there. I appreciate your feedback on the school. Thanks again....

Hi Charmeleon,

I'm a recent Pacific College graduate (last month). I LOVE this school. I appreciated all of my instructors and have made several very good friends. I haven't taken my NCLEX yet but feel very confident that I will pass the first time. Everyone is easy to talk to and NCLEX reviews are offered weekly. I learned a lot.

I hope you give it a try. If you want to learn, they will help you. It's hard but worth it!

Tammy
