Nurse wanna-be
28 Posts
Hi again!
OK, I understand that nursing is a high pressured job...etc.
I know that in the beginning it's very overwhelming and high pressured.
do these feelings go away over time- as you get more experienced?
Also, just wondering do the new, starting nurses get yelled at and criticized harshly often. I imagine that it depends on your supervisor, head nurse, but however, I can imagine that this overwhelming responsibility can get more overwhelming with harsh criticism etc. Is this common?.... how is it dealt with...etc.
Thanks for the info!

Oh my goodness!
I am so sorry you have such a negative impression of my profession. Please believe me - the people that show up here (or anywhere) to rant and complain are just trying to get something off their chest and need someone to listen. For everyone that posts terrible stuff on this list, there are hundreds of nurses who are very happy with their jobs.
In my clinical experience, I have NEVER been yelled at, 'abused' or disrespected by co-workers or managers... not even as a new grad (100 years ago). A few docs have gotten riled, but it didn't bother me because I knew that my co-workers had my back.
The quality of your work environment in any field depends on the people you work with, and the people who supervise you. We're all in this together, working toward the same goal of quality patient care. Don't be afraid to join us. We'd love to have you!
