Overseas Registered Nurse applying to work in the US

World International

Hi,

I am a New Zealand Registered Nurse (based in the UK) looking to move and nurse in the USA. Has anyone had any success with these international recruiters (e.g. Avant Healthcare Professionals) ?? It looks like doing it yourself may prove difficult in regards to finding a job sponsor for the visa otherwise....Any advice would be appreciated.

Specializes in Gen Surg & Cardiac.

Silverdragon, do you know which states require a CGFNS exam as well as the CES report? It appears that California and Colorado do not but Oregon requires a CGFNS certificate (meaning passing the exam, right?)

Bree, thank you so much for your advice. It really is great to hear your perspective and get some answers from someone who is accomplishing what I hope to do in the future. I was getting so overwhelmed by vague answers and getting redirected that I was beginning to think I would have to move back to the US and start taking the year or two of prerequisites American nursing programs require before applying. Would it be possible for you to PM me your email to me so I can contact you directly in the future since I will most likely have some more NZ-specific questions?

Your REAL new zealand R N university course will get you a Associate Degree ( 2 year ) not 4 years. This is because it will be virtually impossible for you to accumulate enough OFFICIAL clinical placement hours during your course . . .

But you will be able to work normally with an assoc degree as an RN once you pass the NCLEX, so you will be Ok for RN work ...
