Who saw tonight's ER? Did you hear the part where the boy was in CHF and the parents yelled at the MD,"Why aren't you in there with him? There's JUST A NURSE with him!" I am so outraged at the way this show portrays nurses lately. Join me in contacting the show and complaining about their lack of knowledge regarding what nurses are capable of!

I am wondering what you don't like about how they portray their nurses. We have all seen families like the one in last night's episode. They were a very controlling couple, and not at all in tune with their son's wishes, only their own needs. I think when they said they wanted the doctor to be at the bedside and not the nurse, it was their way of controlling the situation. The show was not saying they didn't trust the nurses, the parents of the boy were saying that. The nurses on Er seem to me, to be very knowledgeable and self sufficient group, and very good patient advocates. On a different note, I really like the way they portrayed the human side of the resident (can't remember his name) who had to deal with the boy being tested for HIV. The human side doesn't come out in him very often. I like to see that.

Hmmmm. I did see the episode in question. But I did not take offense because I saw it as a representation of the parent's own stupidity and demanding nature, not the producer's. While I wish the doctor had informed them of the capabilities of a nurse, in the real world, it would have gotten him nowhere.

I saw it too, but I just think it was the characters (parents) complete ignorance and that's what the producers wanted to get through. I must say though that this season of ER has totally not been very good. I'm very disappointed, even finding myself looking at the clock to see if it's finally going to be over. They need some new plots!

I did not see that ER episode. By the time I get home I'm like if I have to hear one more medical term or get emotionally involved with another patient I am going to scream. However, I have been unintentionally sucked into Gideon's Crossing. That is unfortunately a awesome series. I leaves me an emotional wreck. However, I too can take offense to things like that. Know where you are coming from.
