Hello,
I am thrilled. Today my husband and I have decided that I need to leave corporate america and go back to nursing. I was in a hospital for 10 years and I have also been out for 10 years. I have experience working in ER, ICU and BMT. My husband was a cop when I was in the ER and that's how we met. I worked ER in a large city County ER. So.... I have an idea of what the environment would be like in the jail, but I have been out 10 years!
Do you think I could do this? I am concurrently looking at taking a refresher course, but I think someone just stole the last spot! An agency is hiring for the local county jail and they have said they would take a look at me in the past.
I'm just so glad to leave sales and get back with nurses! I missed nurses so much.
Have a good night.

welcome back to nursing. i am a don for cms and love my job. i am also a nursing home administrator with many years experience. i went back to school and was one of the oldest in my class, i graduated. even though you have been in the corporate setting a&p is still the same. common sense prevails and abc's and maslow’s apply. the basics are always worth knowing well. i suggest you attend a refresher course in labs and review clinical procedures. most ed nursing experience, nurses who have a background in waitressing/bartending seem to excel in correctional nursing as they have experience in verbal tactile skills with patients. look forward and go for it. good luck.

Glad you are back in nursing. This post is a long time later, but I hope things are going well for you. If you went into correctional nursing-How has it been? Was the compensation package good? nsgmmm:nurse:
