OU Nursing School

Published

I am in my first year at OU, and I want to apply to OU's nursing school next January. I am just a little nervous about my chances getting in, I've heard it's very competitive. Does anybody know what the statistics are for the actual number of students who were accepted to the Traditional BSN program compared to the number of applicants?

I can't help you with specifics, but I did want to encourage you to consider other options. I've heard from a lot of nurses on the floor and instructors that a lot of OU nurses aren't as prepared as other schools in the area. Yes, they have the reputation as being a good school, but I've heard UCO turns out nurses who are some of the best. Most prepared to take pts. and work on the floor.

I only share that because I had it set in my mind for a long time that x school was the only way, and I was discouraged and frustrated by the odds. But there are a lot of GREAT programs in our area, even 2-yr RN options that are very good and will really prepared you to be a good nurse. I wound up going a totally different route than I initially thought just so I could get my nursing career started. I realized that it was more important to be a nurse, than to have a degree from a certain school. So I'm currently getting my LPN from Metro tech, I start RN school at either Rose St. or OCCC in August, and will get my BSN sometime down the road. Explore your options and the best of luck to you! It's so exciting once you finally get in and get started working with pts. and everything.
