Otero Junior College should be investigated

I am very disappointed to learn that few of my employees failed the nursing program at Otero College. I mean no disrespect to their faculty but, they seriously need to consider how heavily they rely on exams to assess learning. I trained and supervised CNAs and LPNs that are great workers and I even made accommodations in their schedule to make sure they could attend school. When I went to nurse school I don't remember instructor being so sarcastic with their students. Now days is all about the desire for revenue. OJC failure rates on exams are difficult by design and should be investigated. I no longer encourage my employees to apply there. What a waist of their tuition reimbursement.. Those of you who are considering this school THINK very hard before you apply there. Do not rush to a school because of a friend or because schedule circumstances are convenient. Do a hard search in the school that's my advice. OJC lost contract with some of the hospitals in Pueblo so consider the kind of clinical you are gonna get, and how difficult they make their exams for you to pass. They try to tell you that their exams are according to evidence based practice but they do not provide such materials to prepare you for exams. You are in your own. I saw the textbook from one of my employees, and I assure you it was a joke. I do not recommend OJC for any student in Colorado.

I am a former student from Otero Junior College and I totally agree with all that you have said. It is a bad school and I hope the distance is not the only barrier to discourage students to apply there. I have no question that they pick and choose whoever they want to allow it to pass. I also remember that their exams were ridiculous hard. I bet not even their director can pass such exams. It is purposely designed to fail students. Also, they seem to pick on minority groups to fail them. If you are Hispanic, black, or even an immigrant think hard before you apply there.
