hey, all! i wanted to post that i'll be undergoing anti-reflux surgery, most likely next week. the procedure is tif (transoral incisionless fundoplication). i have a small hiatal hernia complicating matters which will be repaired during the procedure.
my general surgeon will be assisting my doc (my gen. surgeon trained my doc back in the day, and my general surgeon, although not officially trained in the tif procedure, will be getting his feet wet w/assisting). my gen. surgeon is hesitant about performing the actual nissen fundoplication, which involves a 360 degree wrap, because i've underwent 5 abdominal surgeries, including a herniorrhaphy which he performed on me in jan. of 2006; he thinks it could be risky/complicated.
my doc who is performing the surgery is the only doc in cincinnati who is qualified to perform the tif procedure; he's a bariatric/general surgeon. i will be contacted soon by the surgery scheduler and will keep everyone posted on the big day and my subsequent recuperation.
have a great evening!
ETA: I've been a chronic GERD sufferer for 8 years, have recently underwent 5 diagnostic tests including:
pH impedance test
gastric emptying study
esophageal manometry
EGD (last week)
upper GI (last week)
and have seen 3 doctors regarding my problem
Yes, I am THE "professional patient!" LOL
