OT For the Last Four Hours of a 12 Hour Shift in Palm Springs?

U.S.A. California

Ran across this info an article:

"Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, which already met the staffing standard even before the law, has hired about 200 nurses in the last year alone, according to spokeswoman Mary Kay Plock.

To maintain adequate staffing Plock said the hospital offers new nurses tuition reimbursement, relocation assistance and pays nurses time-and-a-half for the final four hours of a 12-hour shift."

Just wondering if anybody works at this hospital, and if this is for real, since I remember somebody posting not too long ago that the pay in Palm Springs isn't all that great.

275main,

I know that in some areas it looks like you don't get ot because they average it in. Example-you get norm rate of $20 an hour for 8 hours, then $30 an hour for 4 hours which would be like $280 for 12 hour total, then they divide it up and tell you that they pay $23.33 per hour without telling you that you don't get ot, that it is all figured out together. As far as I know, either hr or whomever decides your pay is who you need to ask if it is that rate plus ot or without. I thought everyone in cali had to be paid ot-one way or the other...

I know for a fact some hospitals dont pay ot after 8 hours. Arrowhead is one I know for sure. I don't know if it is because it is a county hospital but not all hospitals in California does this.

Some southern Ca hospitals are grandfathered in for OT only after 40 hrs in a week or 12 hrs in a day, ie Southwest healthcare in Temecula. But their hourly rates tend to compensate so total 12 hr shift pay is close to those with OT after 8.....its all business now.....
