Hello everyone!
I've been accepted to Orlando Tech's LPN program (starting Jan 06). After obtaining my LPN license, I intend to transition to either Valencia's or SCC's RN program. I am already working on the pre-reqs and expect to have everything completed before graduating from the LPN program. I worry that there will still be a long waiting list for LPN to RN program.
Is there anyone out there that took the LPN to RN route in Orlando? Would you be able to provide me with tips/information on the difficulty in gaining acceptance to Accelerated RN programs? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Nashima,
I just graduated from Orlando Tech in September. I have my pre reqs and wanted to go to the transiton program at Valencia in January but the deadline to apply was in October and u had to already have your license in hand. I didnt take boards till mid October. So I would have to wait until next January to start since they only do it once a year. I personally dont want to wait that long so Im going to go thru Excelsior and do it distance learning. I hope to finish by next January. That way Im saving myself a year. Yes its expensive but Ill make up the difference and then some in the pay difference.
I have a friend who has been an LPN for years and she applied for the LPN-RN transiton in October and got in for this January. They also came to talk to our class...there isnt really a waiting list for the transition program but they anticipate the program becoming more in demand soon bc now its online so its more convenient for working moms, etc. Anyway, you should have no problem getting in, just know it will be the following January that you will be able to start. Just make sure you have your pre reqs done and make as good a grade u can just in case. good luck and feel free to PM me about Otech.
Also one other word of advice...Im not sure if u want to work in LTC after graduation but if u dont I suggest getting a job as a patient care tech at ORMC or FH and work there during school. That way they are more likely to hire you as an LPN bc its hard to get LPN positions in the hospital without experience or if u dont work there already. If I had it to do over thats what I would have done. Im currently working in peds home health and I love it. Ill probably work in the hospital as an RN though and still do this on the side. You learn and grow more in that setting. good luck to you!
Thanks so much for the info!
