Org chem + a&p = recipe for disaster?

Published

Hey there folks!

Hope everyone is doing well and having a great semester!! I'm well into mine - midterms are over and I'm in good shape. :)

I'm looking at planning my courses for next semester and my advisor (who isn't a special advisor to the nursing or science students) recommends that I take Organic Chemistry *AND* Anatomy & Physiology I next semester. Is this a terrible idea? She looked at my GPA and said "you'll be fine!"

I don't know, I kind of don't believe her? I mean I didn't believe that I could manage when I signed up for these classes (that I'm taking now 12 credits= General Biology & General Chemistry & Humanities) but I'm actually doing really well.

Is 12 credits (full time status) -- 8 of them being two TOUGH lab science courses (o-chem + a&p 1), doable for someone who isn't working and currently has a 4.0? I don't think it's realistic that it'll stay that high as I take more classes, but I would like to keep my GPA up as much as possible! I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

Thoughts? Anyone have this schedule and lived so that they can come to AN and tell me about it?? ;)

Thanks for the advice!

The curriculum of my nursing program many years ago required us to take organic chemistry and A&P (the same chem and A&P courses that the college's premed, chemistry, and bio majors took, not some watered down "anatomy for nurses" version) in the same semester (along with other courses, including nursing fundamentals class and clinical) as a matter of course, no questions asked, no other option. That had been the standard practice at the school for a long time. Everyone did fine. It never occurred to us that anyone might feel that wasn't appropriate or reasonable.

Yes, it's doable. Hard, but doable. I'm taking A&P I now and it's alloott of work. I haven't taken O'Chem so I can't speak on that. From your GPA it seems that you know how to manage your time well so I'm sure you'll be fine--especially if you're taking 2 sciences now and doing well. I've never taken two sciences before but just registered for spring semester and will be taking A&P II & Micro together with labs for both. My GPA isn't as good as yours so I should be worrying, not you. Lol
