Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) 3-year BSN - 2025

Published

There's a thread posted for the ABSN but I don't see one for the three year BSN program yet! I sent my application in January 15th for the Portland program. I misunderstood the email that was sent on January 14th. It seemed to imply that if an application was not in verified status on NursingCAS by the application deadline of 02/15, the application would not be considered at all. I had been working on my essays for two months because I wanted to make sure they were perfect. I read over them quickly, made some tweaks and submitted. I'm super nervous that I came off as overzealous or had some grammatical errors I didn't catch the first time.

The website says that we can expect interview invites about a month after the application deadline. Has anyone received an invite yet?

How was your interview? I'm a ball of nerves over here

I did my interview last week, on Tuesday. I think my answers were correct, but I don't think I explained them well. I often freeze up and struggle to think about how to deliver my answers correctly. LOL 😂

Congrats! I got mine today for Portland as well!

Awesome! Looks like we'll all be in the same cohort together. Can't wait to meet everyone!

That's pretty much how mine went 😂  I had prepped but it was like as soon as the camera turned on my mind went blank. So and the essay question, my answer was short but a friend told me if I wrote all I needed to that answered the question it should be fine!

For those that got their acceptance letter for OHSU Portland, may I ask what your stats were? And how you felt your interviews went? 4.0 in pre-Reqs here 3.8 GPA going in 10 years experience in the medical field and got waitlisted. I know I didn't feel as comfortable doing my interviews via the recordings and was also a few days postop from surgery when I had to do it so I'm hoping that wasn't what affected me.

NursingCAS messed up my GPA calculation and my cumulative GPA upon application was a 2.66. (My real GPA is 2.97—still not impressive) My prerequisite GPA was 3.5-3.7.

Personally, I believe there is a lot of weight in the essays (even in the NursingCAS application) and interviews. I performed a lot of research on the school's values and programs, and felt genuinely connected to all of them. It was so impossible to know what questions would be asked, so I made a document with questions I've been asked by interviewers in my past and answered them from a, "why do I want to be a nurse?” perspective.

For me, my story is deeply connected to my family, the importance of patient advocacy, my socioeconomic background growing up, and my experience working with low-income households. I don't think I have the greatest statistics but I think I had a lot of lived life experience that is really diverse. I mentioned this in the past but I have seriously been working on my personal statement for the last 5 years. Even though they (and many other schools) don't ask for it, it forced me to really dive deeper on who I am and why I want this.

I asked everyone to read my statement from providers I worked with to scholarship-winning friends in my orbit, and everyone that would listen to me. My purpose is very specific, and I assume that helped my application.

Newsletter from NursingCas says Klamath and Monmouth campuses have application extension to May 1st now on a rolling basis... does that mean those of us who did interviews will have to wait a bit longer to hear back or how does that work? At least for Monmouth, we originally were told the end of April.

I'm not sure. Maybe reach out to an admissions director or something to see how that process would work. I applied for the Portland campus so I don't know how they're doing it for Monmouth. I'm sorry about all the confusion with your application  process!

Officially paid my deposit and turned in my acceptance agreement for the Portland cohort yesterday! Has anyone joined the facebook group yet? I'm so excited to meet everyone!

I spoke with an advisor at Monmouth, and she said that anyone who was selected to interview at the original deadline will get feedback on the 30th of April, or 1st of May. 112 people will be selected to interview in total, and 48 will be selected for the program! Anyone who interviews after the deadline will receive feedback on a rolling basis, meaning they have their own timeline. Hope that helps!

You're a godsend, thank you! Ahhh good luck to all of us! I thought they only took 32-40 for some reason so taking 48 increases the odds. I hope we get in! ❤️

Thank you so much!! I hope we get in! 🙂

Is there anyone who was placed on the alternate list? I'm on the alternate list at the Ashland campus. I'm wondering what the chances are that I'll be accepted to the program.

if anyone got on the alternate status, may I know if OHSU still uses the words "highly likely", "most likely," and "moderate/ likely" for their list.

They do not use those words. I spoke with them as I'm an alternate for the Portland campus.

"Unfortunately, we are not able to share where alternates are on the list.”

Ineork

With several nurse that were on the alternate list and got in between May to August so who knows.
