Members are discussing their acceptance letters and interview experiences for the OHSU Portland nursing program, sharing their stats, GPA, and personal stories. Some members are on alternate lists for different campuses and are seeking information on the selection process. Others are celebrating their acceptance to various campuses and discussing the timeline for feedback and admissions decisions.
There's a thread posted for the ABSN but I don't see one for the three year BSN program yet! I sent my application in January 15th for the Portland program. I misunderstood the email that was sent on January 14th. It seemed to imply that if an application was not in verified status on NursingCAS by the application deadline of 02/15, the application would not be considered at all. I had been working on my essays for two months because I wanted to make sure they were perfect. I read over them quickly, made some tweaks and submitted. I'm super nervous that I came off as overzealous or had some grammatical errors I didn't catch the first time.
The website says that we can expect interview invites about a month after the application deadline. Has anyone received an invite yet?

On the note of what you said about essays being a major part of how you got the interview: I believe so, too. I personally have 10,000+ healthcare work hours but I have a lot of experience for all of the questions they asked on the application as well. I have also heard OHSU has a preference for older candidates, which I happen to fall under.
I don't want to share my cumulative GPA because I am not proud of it. (I never thought of my college career right out of high school. I fooled around and now I'm 30, trying to restart my life) But my prerequisite/science GPA is around 3.5-3.7. I also worked on my personal statement and my "why" in nursing for the past five years, receiving help from physicians, nurses and scholarship-winning students in my personal life.
That's amazing! You're going to do great. I was definitely surprised I bit to get an interview because I am on the younger side (early 20s) and this is my first bachelors. OHSU seems to put a lot of weight into essays and interviews compared to some of the other programs that I applied to (community colleges) which all used point based systems. Good luck to everyone! I hope to meet y'all some day if/when we're all in the same cohort! 😁
Hi all! I applied to the Ashland campus. In our mock interview session they told us that we should hear back about interviews the week of March 31st. I applied last year but did not get an interview, hoping things will be different this year. I have a 3.9 GPA and a small amount of CNA experience. I've had some unique cultural experiences that I hope can make my application stand out. Part of my interview strategy is organizing and practicing lots of different personal anecdotes in the STAR format, so that I have something ready to go for the different questions I might get. Good luck to everyone!
I just completed my interview this morning. I woke up at 2 am and couldn't fall back asleep and I figured I wouldn't be MORE alert as the day went on, so I just went for it at about 5 this morning. I'm not sure that I did very well. The questions weren't unusual, but I would start answering and then realize I wasn't giving examples, or I would draw a blank and not elaborate, etc. I think I'm being super self-critical because I'm tired but I guess we'll see!

I plan on doing my interview later this afternoon. I am really nervous because I feel like I would do better with an actual person in front of me rather than an audition tape thing. What was the interview like? I'm confused on how it works with the whole 30-60 second response thing.

You should check-in now and perform through the Practice step. (I think step 4 or 5?) You can do that without recording your final answers. The Practice step is exactly the same as the actual assessment, so you'll understand exactly how it works once you go through that!
If you prepare well for any typical questions related to nursing, I think you'll be prepared for this. The questions are read by people in recordings, so it doesn't just feel like you read a question and just record.
Good luck!

I'm sure you've already finished but I would get the prompt, jot some ideas down, then practice speaking the answers out loud before the recording part. How do you think you did?
