Order of classes?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am in the process of moving from Texas to Louisiana, and hopefully will be starting my pre-req's next year sometime. From what I can tell, they only require english I, Algebra, chem, A&P I, and something called CMST before you can apply for nursing school (ADN). Should I take those classes in any particular order? Would it be wise to take the other sciences before applying even though it's not required? The curriculum has the other sciences and classes that most schools have as pre-req's mixed in with the actual nursing courses. I'm thinking that would just be too much! But maybe not. I've never been to actual college, only MA school. WWYD?

My suggestion is to take as many of the support courses you can before you get into nursing school. Nursing school is hard enough without adding the extra classes at the same time. The other reason I would suggest this is because having the courses will help you to better understand the information being given.

I don't think it would matter what order you took them in. Out of those four though, I'd say Chem and A&P1 were the most difficult. So if you had a choice, I'd pair Chem & Eng, and Algebra & A&P1, or something like that, not the two sciences together. How many classes are you taking though each semester? Are you going full time? I've been taking one at a time, but I also work full time..so it's nice to just buckle down on one subject.

Do you have to take A&P2? Because in most places, A&P1 is a prereq for 2..so if you put 1 off, it'll be that much longer until you can take 2.

I would say take as many classes before you start the nursing program as you can..it just makes it that much easier to focus on the actual nursing and clinical information (not that I'm actually in a program yet, but just what I've heard from people on here.)

Good luck! :p

Also, I just thought, do you have to take Bio 100? That's usually a prereq for A&P..so that will add another semester before you can start the A&P's, you might want to knock that out first (not sure if you had this already in MA school though)

That's what I was thinking. The other schools I was looking at around here required you to take all of those classes before applying to NS. Now that we are moving, I have to adjust my plan a bit.

I do have to take A&PII and Bio. The curriculum has A&PII listed first year, first semester and Micro second year, first semester of NS. This is all very different to me! If I work, it will only be very part-time, so I'll probably take 3 classes at a time. I've always heard how hard nursing school is, so I didn't understand how I was going to keep on top of things with a core class thrown in!

Specializes in Hospice / Ambulatory Clinic.

For sciences take Chem then Anatomy the Physiology (if separate) then Microbiology. The liberal arts courses you can take concurrently with the sciences and the math too but unless you are awesome at the sciences then take one at a time.
