Oral dextrose water

We do not stock D5 or D10 water bottles anymore & haven't for a long, long time. We use SweetEase for sucrose pacifiers for mild pain. We use sterile water bottles for oral care, micro-preemie baths (we warm it in our waterless breast milk warmer), and for a few sips as a test bottle before first po feedings. We stock Pedialyte and use it for feedings as ordered by our physicians.

Same here! Except for feeding! I've not seen it used for testing feeds, but can't say it doesn't happen!

Oops, there must have been an inadvertent misunderstanding of my post. We only use sterile water as test bottles to let a a baby show they can swallow a few sips before giving formula or breast milk po. Giving water with any sugar in it would defeat the purpose as any sugar water that is accidentally aspirated could set up the baby for pneumonia. I apologize if my post was not clear on that point. :)

We do stock both D5 and D10 water bottles, but I have never, ever opened one since I came here. I am not sure why we still have them in stock, actually. We do use sterile water bottles for oral care and sometimes for eye cleansing, but that is it. We use SweetEase for pain management during procedures.
