OR/ Theatre nurse plese help...

Im a fresh graduate from a BSN course and im so much interested in OR nursing. Do OR nurse still give meds to pts? Is it more difficult than being a staff nurse in a ward?

Hi-glad to hear you are interested in OR nursing. Yes, you still give meds but it's a little different. For instance, you may mix antibiotic to go into irrigation or an IV bag. Also, heparin irrigation is prepared for vascular patients. It is very different from floor nursing but in a good way. You only have one patient at a time and surgery is interesting. It's very fast paced and critical thinking is a must have. It is possible now to go right into the OR out of school, depending on your hospital. Good luck!
