OR Attire for "Significant Other" during Cesarean Sections

Specialties Operating Room

Published

I am a Perioperative Nurse on a Labor and Delivery Unit. I am looking for information on the attire of the "significant other" accompanying the patient to the operating room during Cesarean Sections.

At our hospital, the significant other dresses in full scrub clothes, hat and shoe covers. They dress in the OB physician lounge and are accompanied to the OR with the C-Section team.

We have the significant others in full scrubs, they are allow in the OR after the pt is preped and draped.

we have packs of "one size fits most" paper disposable scrub top, bottoms, shoe covers, hat & mask.....this is great, as we give the pack to the "S.O." & have them put them on OVER their street clothes (we used to have them change into them...til we found out too many men don't wear underwear when they split the seat out of the paper trousers!) If the S.O is huge, we loan them a set of cloth scrubs. Many of our patients families think they deserve a free set of scrubs to keep, and try to steal them...so the paper ones help cut down on that...& they do get to keep those!
