I graduated from TWU in '78 and went to work at St. Luke's Hospital in the Texas Medical Center immediately out of school. I had worked there as a student. I worked at various hospitals in the medical center, getting critical care experience before I landed my dream job in the ED at Ben Taub. The only mistake I ever made as a nurse was working for an HCA hospital for a time (they bought out a hospital where I was director of the ED). Working for HCA is HORRIBLE. I would strongly advise that you stay away from all for profit hospitals because their first priority is always money, not patients. Therefore, you do not have the equipment, supplies that you need. In addition, they tried their best to get me to turn patients away in the ED which I refused to do. I would never work for a for profit hospital again, even if it was the only hospital in town.
Thank you for that advice! I appreciate it!
