:nono: hello

after fifteen years as a lpn i returned to school three years ago to obtain my rn licensure.

i am now considering a job change. does anyone have any feedback from the operating room at wake forest university baptist medical center? (aka baptist hospital or)

justsmile

I have a friend in the CRNA program there, and she really enjoys the environment. My family member had a transplant and sever other procedures there, and from a pt/family perspective, we were very happy with the way they work. Every question was answered, the OR was very communicative with the waiting family during the procedure, (they called at least five times to the waiting room to update us). There were no complications, his sutures were beautiful, and I don't know what else to say, since I was not in the OR. I got the impression that everyone was very dedicated and patient safety oriented. Several of the surgeons there, the ones that he sees regularly, are proving to be really neat guys and I'd guess they are great to work with. My CRNA friend agrees. I hope to work there some day. I am in a CST program, and Moses Cone is closer to me for call purposes, but I feel comfortable at Baptist, I suppose because I have spent sooo much time there with my family member. Plus, I believe it is Level I Trauma and I think I might be interested in trauma surgery (too early to say for sure!).

The only problems we have ever experienced there were related to med/surg and transplant floor nurses and had nothing to do with OR staff.

Good luck to you!

I worked at Baptist for 2 1/2 years right out of nursing school. I worked on the 11th floor of the reynolds tower and then got into the OR program. After completing the OR program I stayed there about 2 years. It was a great learning experience but my only problem was putting OR nurses on salary. I didn't like being on salary. I like to make a little over-time every now and then. I am now employed at another W-S hospital and love it and I've been there for 3 years.

thank you so much for your feedback.....are you by chance working at forsyth now?

Specializes in OR, and more recently PACU and SDC.

I worked at Baptist for 1 1/2 yrs, a level 1 trauma center. I was there for the sole purpose of obtaining further experience before heading off on travel assignments. It was a fantastic place to work and gain experience. Because it is such a large teaching facility, I saw things you might not see anywhere else. They also do research there. The one thing that I did have to put aside, like many hospitals, were, the personalities. Patience and tolerance is pushed to their limits. It all makes you stronger.

I might suggest though, another hospital about 25 minutes down the road from there in Greensboro. They have an excellent intern/preceptor program there. It is a level 2 hospital with 16 (?) main OR's and 4 (?) neuro OR's. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to get a good solid start. Best wishes to an aspiring OR nurse.
