How can I get OR training without....

Hi everyone,

I am an experienced ER nurse, and I am now working in Crisis relief in Africa (currently on one month leave yahoo!). I have always worked in Recovery due to my lack of OR skills. I would love to learn to scrub in effectively. So many hospitals have the nice programs now where they train nurses, but they usually require a long commitment afterwards (naturally I think). Is there some way that I can obtain basic training as a scrub nurse without a lengthy commitment??

Basic training is usually months. I do not know of one hospital that will train someone to have them leave after just a few months. It is quite expensive for them to train a nurse for the OR. Last I heard the cost was somewhere around $10,000 due to the salaries involved of the educators and preceptors, etc. required.
