Ontario RPN grad moving to Alberta.. BSCN options?

Published

Hi guys,

I recently graduated from the RPN diploma program in Ontario. My sweetheart and I are moving to Calgary soon, and I'm thinking about going back to school in September. I've done quite a bit of research about transferring my license and what not, and have decided I am going to keep my registration in Ontario current as well as hold Alberta registration in the LPN class.

Im wondering if anyone has experience moving out there as an RPN, and gaining your RN during that time. From what my understanding is, ontario RPN grads are educated slightly higher than the LPN programs in Alberta. Wondering what type of transfer credits may have been offered, and if anyone had any school/ program recommendations :)

Uhm, no, you are not "educated to a higher standard" than Alberta PNs.

The only option for upgrading to BScN out here is via Athabasca U. You are required to have a specific number of paid hours of employment as an LPN (and it needs documentation). Check their website, it will tell you what courses are permitted to be transferred and what courses you can take while building up the hours for acceptance.

Thank you for your reply.

I apologize if i worded the education difference in an offensive manner, however, the reason i stated it is because ontario graduate requirements are different clinical hour wise. We complete a much longer consolidation term of practical hours than those studying in alberta. Our course load throughout the program however is similar.

Did you take the athebasca program?
