Only LPN, just me and MA?

Published

I got my LPN in July and just finished my 3rd week at a local low-income clinic. Upon hiring, the DON told me that I would never be the only LPN yet next week's schedule has me 3 out of 5 days of the week as the only LPN (with a MA with me). We are supposed to have a 90 day orientation and I really feel uncomfortable being left by myself. I am comfortable with the "normal" nursing duties - drawing labs, injections, etc. but as I had previously posted, the paperwork is a nightmare! - and thank you by the way to the person that responded, I did organize things a bit and that has helped! I still feel uncomfortable because I don't have anyone to ask what to do in what situations. Simply calling in a refill - where do I document, things like that - nobody is there to really help me. There are other orientees with more experience than me who are staying with larger groups of LPNs and I don't understand why I am left by myself when I was told I wouldn't be. I am considering bringing this up to the DON but am afraid they will let me go because of it. However, they told me during my interview that I would never be the only LPN on site.... yet here I am, alone....

I worked as a MA for a year, and i learned alot of the simple taks calling in refills, new rx's, cultures. if your have similiar questions im sure the MA should be able to help, if not you should deff talk to your DON especially if u feel incomfatable with some of the duties they assign to you when you are on your own. Im sure she will be willing to hear your out and offer a compromise to help you out.

I hope This Helps.
