Hey everyone! I have a quick question- if anyone can offer input, preferably based on personal experience, I'd be super grateful:)
I need to renew my CA nursing license for the first time. Been an LVN 5 years- 3 in CT. Anyways- my letter urged us to do it online, as it is faster. I plan to do that.
My letter said that if I do this by mail the letter must be postmarked by February 28th to avoid the late fee that's associated with the 30 day grace period (March 30th.)
My question: if I go online and renew February 28th (paying by major credit card) should I be ok?
And would this effect my employment in any way? It didn't in the past in CT- anyhow, I'm grateful for any input anyone can offer.

So, your license expires on the 28th? I would do it a few days ahead of time in case there's some unforeseen reason the service was down or something weird.. but I did just renew mine over online and everything updates right away :) and it shows my license is good till 2016 now!

My renewal is due the end of April and I usually do it online by march 1. There is no harm in doing it as early as possible.

Agreed. I do mine the minute I get the eligibility-to-renew notice. It doesn't move up the expiration date in any way and gets it out of the way. It helps that I have to accumulate about 30 CEUs per year just to maintain my accreditation, so I never have to worry about whether I have enough CEUs done in time for renewal.

Today is February 1st, and I plan on doing it tonight- from what you said, I think I'll be ok? What do you think? At any rate, your response reassured me, so thank you.Agreed. I typically like to renew the second I get the letter as well; but this year, I had an emergency come up where I didn't get a paycheck for three weeks and I was unable to borrow money.Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com

Hopefully this helps someone. I did it today, and it DOES NOT automatically update. So according to all online records, my license still expires in four weeks. If I don't get my new one in time, I will be facing unemployment. Lesson learned.
For the state of Florida you can print out a temporary one until you get the official one in the mail. I don't know if this applies to other states. Even my clinician said she can go online to see if I renewed without having to hound is for the official paper.
I may have spoken too soon, but two to three days ago, I was able to find my name as current on the BVNPT license lookup online- and my new license arrived yesterday. It would take FOREVER in CT.
Ok I just did my renewal and after verification of my required ceu's and making my payment, I was able to print a temporary one.
