did your online prereq's transfer?

Published

I want to take my prereq's online for nurisng school. This includes anat and pharmacology etc. The schools I am looking into (EDUKAN, RIO SALADO) do not show the courses as being "online". Did your online prereq's transfer? I have seen some people say yes and no to this so I am unsure. Its hard to get through with an advisor at the school I plan to attend via phone so I'm thinking of just taking these classes and giving it a chance. Honestly how do they know if they are online?

Only sure way is to contact your universities you are looking at going to. I had some transfer and some not. My Edukan course did thankfully, but not my med terminology. SO yeah, just ask the place you plan to go eventually.

Online courses offered by accredited institutions are rarely labelled "online" on a transcript because the syllabus is going to be exactly the same as a different section of the course that is delivered offline. i.e. "Online" - or "virtual", etc., simply describes where the course is located - just like building no, and room no for an offline class. Also online formats vary - your lecture materials might be all in writing, or you might be watching your instructor and participating with an on site classroom through a live feed on your computer. You might be required to have a lot of online interaction with your instructor and classmates in a virtual classroom (discussion board), or you might be basically working on your own and only contact your instructor if you had questions. You never know till you sign up.

Most nursing schools require prereqs to be taken at accredited institutions. So if the institution is accredited then the other important thing is to make sure the course description and coursework is exactly what your nursing school requires. e.g. Lifespan psychology has to be just that - usually you can't sub with child psych. If science with lab is required then you have to find a course with lab - online/offline doesn't usually matter. As Thatguy says check with the nursing school recruiter before you sign up for a course so that you don't have to waste time/money taking a course to find out that the school won't accept it.

Ditto from what the others have said. Rarely, if ever, other than known online colleges such as University of Phoenix will you see the notation "online course" on a transcript. You should be fine but I would call the college you are hoping to transfer to and call the registration dept of the college that you may be transferring from to confer. Best wishes

thanks for the responses
