OHSU BSN Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, I am currently finishing up all my prerequisites to apply to OHSU and applying after this quarter to the 2019-2020 BSN program, specifically to the Portland Campus. It maybe a little early but I figured might as well make a thread and connect with other applicants and provide a place to give advice or motivation for each other and anyone that needs it. Good luck everyone.

Hey guys, I did have a question regarding my competitiveness for the OHSU program. I currently have a 3.7 GPA for prereqs from a local community college with some prereqs remain including A&P II and other simple classes (I am sure I will get an A- or better in all these classes). I also have a bachelors degree in biology but with a horrible GPA that I am ashamed to even mention due to negligence. I am afraid that my GPA from my past degree will effect my competitiveness. Anyone been in a similar situation or know someone who has and/or have any information on this topic is appreciated.

If you are applying to the 3-year BSN program, my understanding is that they don't take undergrad GPA into consideration- just pre-requisite GPA!

They take into consideration many other things like how many A+P courses you've completed, if you have a previous degree, if you are an Oregon resident, if you did well in chemistry, how you answer the supplemental questions, etc... so I feel like there are lots of ways to redeem yourself!!

I'm applying to the 2019 cohort, as well. Here are my stats: 3.7 pre-req GPA, all courses completed except for microbiolgy (will be in progress during application), 1,500+ hours of work experience (EMT and health clinic assistant), TONS of experience with diverse populations, previous bachelor's degree.

I'm feeling pretty confident with my supplemental material, so I'm hoping they are as holistic in their selection process as they say they are!

Awesome. Thank you. I have a BS in biology but my gpa for that degree suck. I am currently taking A&P and Lifespan Psychology at a community college right now and have taken all my other prereqs already. I have a 3.6 prereq gpa as well but don't have much experience unless you count working at a clinical lab. lol If I don't get in this time, I'll probably retake my English classes since those two are the only prereqs classes where I have my Bs in. I wish you the best of luck and I feel your application looks solid especially with all the work experience.

Don't take my word for it, but I'm pretty sure your previous degree fulfills the English requirement and they don't use your grades from those classes in calculating your prerequisite GPA. I went to an information session last year, and I vaguely remember them mentioning that. I'd call and ask, before you take the classes over again!

Good luck to you as well!!

If that is true then you made my day. I currently have a 3.81 gpa if I diregard my English grades. Thank you.

I applied.

10,000+ hours of healthcare experience. (EMT for 8 years)

All prerequisites are completed.

Also have chemistry done.

Will have my Bachelors degree in Public Health at the end of the summer.

140+ hours of volunteering at OHSU and giving lectures to the School of Nursing + School of Medicine.

GPA: 3.5 :(

good of luck to all!

Notifications for interviews will be sent in March. Interviews in April.

Did anyone get interview invite? I got my invite and was wondering if anyone has attended one before, I want to know what the process is like.
