Online education

Hello all!

I am a new member to allnurses.com and an LVN in northern California. My base taining was in emergency & surgical medicine. For the past 10 years I've been employed as an Occ-Health nurse to a major manufacturing company.

I have a question about online colleges. I wish to ascend to the RN ranks and I'm asking if any of you out there obtained your RN through the online schools, e.g., AIU etc.

Any feedback will be most helpful.

I highly recommend Excelsior College-it's all distance education and there are lots of listservs for study buddies on yahoogroups.com

Now I just need to see what the California boards decision was yesterday on continuing to recognize Excelsior.

Pretty typical of the California state of affair's these days. Politics are terrible. And, with a nursing shortage the Board pulls this stuff. They must be just standing there shooting themsevles in the feet & watching as they do it!

Sierra,

If you enroll in Excelsior's ASN program now, you will not have any problem as the current enrolles will be grandfathered in. Call them and they will confirm that for you.

I would definitely call them, the BON as there is supposed to be a meeting on Oct. 17th 2003, but EC site is saying something different. Even though EC may know something we don't yet, I would still call the BON:) Good luck with your goal:cool:
