Online Bio classes @ Rio

I was wondering how the lab works with the online Science classes at Rio. I wanted to take Micro and A&P I & II.

I was wondering how the lab works with the online Science classes at Rio. I wanted to take Micro and A&P I & II.

I took BIO201 at Rio and I was the first class to take it with the revamped labs, this was about 3 years ago. The labs were ALOT of work, averaging me about 30 hours a week. I don't know if it is still the same. There were many complaints because the software was askew and mark things off that weren't wrong, labs turned in never arrived, yada, yada, yada. I took BIO202 in person at Glendale since I thought nothing could be worse. Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,the cats soaked in formaldehyde all summer without air conditioning were worse :rotfl: Plus I hated disecting those cats and having to look at them - they really freaked me out since I am a cat lover.

Anyway, back to topic. THe Rio labs were just lots of paperwork and tediously looking up and researching thousands of things, entering data into the Rio computer, and that's about it. You don't look at CAT anatomy (which to me is useless), you use ADAM software and look at human anatomy which is much more useful in the real world.

I thought A & P classes at Rio was great! You're right ... a lot of busy work...But, I have taken a lot of Bio classes (I was a Bio major) and most labs where you're hacking up animals seem completely useless:uhoh3: ...especially when you're trying to learn human anatomy! If you're self-motivated, disciplined and trying to save time commuting, I recommend the Rio classes.

Labs are all completed online. In Bio 201-202 you will have a lab book that will guide you through an online format of questions that you need to answer. Most instructors use the labs as a chance to curve your grade and tend not to read through them. Other ones will nitpick every word. So you can expect to spend on average 1.5 hours per lab. Micro does not have a lab book but the labs are in the same online format. Overall, labs are not too difficult. Some have you spend inordinate amounts of time labeling obscure diagrams, but I would personally sooner do labs online than in-person.
