Hi, I'm a diploma RN in Ontario, Canada. I would like to upgrade my education by taking on-line courses to bridge to BSN. I'm finding tons of schools offering this option in the States, but I haven't found anything for Canada. Does anyone know of any on-line schools for Canadians? I work full-time so I want to go the on-line route. Many thanks! :nurse:

I understand your desire for a Canadian school but there are plenty of alternatives in the States . . .

I don't mind using an American school, but do you know if it is accepted in Canada?

I believe that the answer is yes but am not 100% certain. Canadian credentials (both nursing and academic) are accepted in the US, though I believe the procedures for equivalence vary significantly from state to state. I would look for a school and program that has both national (e. g., CCNE) and regional acceditation (e. g., Middle States Association). Most on-line programs associated with traditional colleges and universities (e. g., Penn State, Drexel Univer, U Texas, etc) have both. Some of the for-profits (U of Phoenix) also do but many do not have the regional scholastic accreditation. I'd think that the regional accreditation would help ensure Canadian equivalency and that you'd be taking a chance without it.

Another reason to be cautious about the for-profit schools is cost. Tuition at the Univer of Wyoming, Ohio Univer and the Univer of Texas-Arlington is very reasonable ($125 to maybe $225 per credit). Tuition at the for-profits such as Kaplan or Phoenix can run upwards of $600 per credit.

The best advice I can provide would be to check with your Board of Nursing (not sure if Canada has Provincial BoN's or a national body).

Best of luck!
